Occupiers are looking at how buildings can boost their appeal in an effort to attract and retain skilled workers.
If you want to know why the needs of occupiers have changed in recent years, just look at what their staff are wearing. “When I first started working in the City 22 years ago, everyone wore a plain or pinstripe suit with a shirt and tie,” says Richard Proctor, Knight Frank’s head of central London tenant representation. “Now, if you walked around the City like that, you’d almost stand out.”
The change in fashion reflects a change in the attitudes of employees. Not only do they now “wear what they want”; they also demand more from their workplace.
